PROJECT BASELINE
Project Baseline is a citizen-science-initiative aiming to record the changes in environment thorughout time. For this, science strives to define an objective starting point – a baseline in which starting conditions such as water quality, water clarity, fish counts, living reef coverage, etc are compared to evolving conditions. Environmental declines can then be quantified and appropriate corrective actions developed.
MARINE PARK ĊIRKEWWA
The Ċirkewwa Marine Park is the first of its kind in Malta. This park is managed by Nature Trust FEE Malta in agreement with the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA). Nature Trust FEE Malta is a non-profit, non-governmental, environmental organization. Ċirkewwa has two wrecks a few meters apart: Rożi tugboat and the P29 patrol boat. These were scuttled in 1992 and 2007 respectively. Over the years, these wrecks have become home to a large number of algae and fish species. These two wrecks are recognised as CONSERVATION AREAS and NO STOPPING AREAS.
PROJECT BASELINE ĊIRKEWWA
Project Baseline Ċirkewwa was created in 2022 and aims to record changes in marine environment throughout time. Establishing a library of measurements and pictures provides science with useful data to define the status of the marine environment and directions of shifts withing the marine ecosystem.
Citizen-Science is a powerful tool for conservation: It shows that each of us can protect the ocean.
